Author Information
Next, we need to who is / was the author of the work that is being registered for copyright protection. This is the person who actually created the work. Note, this may differ from the Owner who is claiming ownership of the work being registered.
Owner / Author Relationship*
- Owner is the Author
  Owner is the person who created the work.
- Owner is the Employer of the Author
  Owner employs the person who created the work and it was created in the course and scope of that employment (e.g., Owner is a software company and is registering software code written by one of its employees).
- Work-for-Hire
  The person who created the work is not regularly employed by the Owner but created the work for Owner under a work-for-hire agreement (e.g., Owner hired a freelance graphic designer to design their logo).
- Assignment of Copyright
  The Author assigned or transferred the rights to the work to the Owner (e.g., after recording a song the Author transferred the rights to the recording to the Owner record label via written assignment).
Name of the Author
List the name of the individual who created the work at issue.
Country of Citizenship of the Author
Provide the country of citizenship for the Author.

Upload Work-for-Hire Agreement (Optional)
You selected "Work-for-Hire". Before the U.S. Copyright Office will register your copyright you will need to provide them with a copy of the signed agreement with the Author. Note, this is optional at this stage but if not submitted with the original application will need to be submitted at a later date. If you do not have an agreement in place prior to the author creating the work, consider selecting Assignment of Copyright and we can provide you with a form to have the Author sign and return to support your claim of ownership.

Assignment of Copyright (Optional)
You selected "Assignment of Copyright". Before the U.S. Copyright Office will register your copyright you will need to provide them with a copy of the signed assignment agreement with the Author. Note, this is optional at this stage but if not submitted with the original application will need to be submitted at a later date. If you do not have an agreement in place prior to the author creating the work, we can provide you with a form to have the Author sign and return to support your claim of ownership.
